Mortgage related spam rise to 10% since last week

Spam about mortgage refinancing jumped to 10% of all spam in the past week after the recent interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve. During the 4th quarter of 2007, this type of spam was only 2% of all spam subjects.

MX Lab not notices that also so-called "grey bulk emailers" are following the trend. These companies send the same campaign, mostly completely image based, sometimes several times per day, to their recipients using different domains and mail from addresses with each mailing.

With this 'technique' they avoid the unsubscribe actions from recipients because your unsubscribe action is only used for the emailing from that particular domain. An example below.
