New PDF based “pump-and-dump” stock spam 9 July 2007
In a previous news bulletin on June 29th MX Lab reported about the new way spammers try to deliver their messages with the help of PDF files.
PDF based spam seems to take a lead over image based spam very soon because MX Lab is detecting two new PDF based pump-and-dump stock spam campaigns together with some text based stock spam messages.
One of these campaigns is, again, very professional with a fully designed PDF file than is about 90 kB big. The name of the PDF attachments are random and the body of the email appears empty. The subject is however always "Info".
The text based stock spam campaigns are in the German language and it has been a trend over the last few months that German stock spam is prominent.
